Here at Stroud Valleys Family Practice we are piloting a nurse lead telephone triage system on Wednesday mornings.
This means that reception will add all same day appointment requests through to the Practice Nurse morning triage telephone list to then subsequently call back and see how we can best accommodate patient needs.
Our triage motto is ‘right patient, right clinician, right time’. Triage allows for this process to be adhered to in that some patients the Nurse is qualified to manage without the need for GP time, some more minor issues can be signposted to other community services or even dealt with by a clinician over the phone.
Triage offers increased support to protecting GPs already overstretched time and allows the Doctors to focus on more complex health needs of patients.
